Chickering
Antique Piano For Sale
The Piano is a Chickering "Cocked Hat" Grand,
#16693, built about 1856
This beautiful antique
piano is in excellent condition. The keyboard is set
at 60% to the back line, (rather than 90%), which affords an
improved view of the performer's hands. It has 85
keys rather than the traditional 88. This piano's
backline is 77 1/2 inches and the width across the board is
49 inches. The maximum width from the backline is 58
inches. The case is Brazilian Rosewood with the
original highly polished finish. The legs are large
double hexagon fluted columns tapered from a scalloped
collar to a round block foot. The music rack features
hand carved decorative panels. The serial serial
number 16693 is
branded on the interior. The hammers and their
felting appear in good condition with the only exception
being the last key on the right, treble end of the keyboard
which has a weak strike. More Photos Here.
This piano was acquired by the latest owner in 1965 from
Thomas Mitchell of Los Angeles, California. The
Mitchell's reportedly had the piano shipped by sea from
Boston in 1905 and it remained in their hands until it was
sold to the most recent owner.
There is an antique piano bench with the piano. The bench
has an upholstered seat with a needlepoint cover featuring
red chrysanthemums against a beige background. The
Queen Anne legs of the bench are compatible and have ball
and claw feet. Like the piano, the bench is in
excellent condition.
